Buzzing bastard stung me
Well the last few days have been interesting to say the least, On Wednesday I went again for my bike ride, and as I was riding next to Vasona Lake, a bee stung my leg. Just out of the blue, I was riding, about 15mph listening to my music, and this pain instantly started to come from my leg… I looked down and saw a bee hanging off my leg… I sorta freaked out from the pain, and almost flipped over the handle bars because I grabbed the front break a little too hard… I called my mom and she brought me some baking soda, which when mixed with water does wonders for bee stings. There was no stinger left in my leg, but it had started to swell. After I put the baking soda paste on for a few mins, I went on my way, completing my bike ride almost non stop from that point. The next few days were not so good for my leg because it remained swollen and itched a lot.
On Friday night I went out on a blind double date with matt, his girlfriend, and one of his girlfriend’s friends. We went to eat at Spoons and one of their gay couples came with us to dinner. They were quite interesting… they came along because they were leaving town that night and were not going to be able to see them again for a while. We had a fun time at dinner, laughing most of the time… most of the people there got burgers, but I got this margarita marinated chicken, which was really good. After dinner we went and saw Ladder49. It was very well made but very sad. I’ve since heard that it’s pretty realistic too. We then went back to Matt’s girlfriend’s house and played about an hour of cards before calling it a night. I had a good time, but I wasn’t very interested in the girl, though she would make a good friend.
I didn’t do too much on Saturday, other than ride my bike and go to the gym. I woke up in the early afternoon, put my biking clothes in the dryer, and once they were dry I left for my bike ride. I did just my now usual ride, from home, down to Lark, and then onto the creek trail, to downtown Los Gatos, then up St. Joseph’s hill. I made it to the top without stopping again, though I had to put my foot down once when my wheel slipped on a rock. On my way home I stopped at the Los Gatos Athletic club, I just got a membership there, and it’s in the perfect location for stopping by before or after a bike ride. While I was there I did 2000m on the Erg (rowing machine) and did it in 7:30.3 which isn’t that bad for not rowing in over four years. I think my best time while I was rowing was 6:46 or something like that. I also did 10 mins on the stair machine, and spent a little time in the weight room before getting back on my bike to come home.
Sunday wasn’t a good day. I woke up and again did my daily bike ride up St Joseph’s hill, made it to the top this time without even putting my foot down, which is a first for me. It was a little cold at the top and I was planning on going to the gym, so I didn’t do my usual workout at the top, instead I just looked at the view for about thirty seconds and came back down. It was the down part that made my day not so good. I made it almost to Jones trail, coming down from hilltop vista, and I went up on one of those little side thingies you see on trails, where the bike riders go up to come down quicker, a little hill, but on this little hill, the mud came out from under my tire and I don’t really remember how I fell, I just remember having my handlebars backwards and having serious pain and blood coming from my left knee. I don’t know if it was hit by the bike petal, the frame, or some rocks on the way down the hill, but it sure did hurt a lot. I let out a few bad words real loud and then got on the phone. I called my house and my dad answered, he said he would come get me near the high school, which is where I asked him to get me… It was all downhill from where I was to where he could pick me up, so I got back on the bike, and down hilled slowly with a nasty look in my face and blood dripping down my knee. As I rode down the hill, the wound got real cold from the wind which made it hurt more. I got to the bottom of the hill and waited just a few mins for my dad to arrive; once he did I got in the car and went home. I didn’t need to go to emergency, because I didn’t think I had broken anything and emergency is real expensive. Once I was home I had to clean it, and scrubbing it with a soft sponge really hurt a lot, but what hurt even more was the alcohol to clean it. I sat all evening with my knee elevated and Ice on and off for several hours. Around 6:45 my neighbor came over, he is a surgeon and also does a lot of mountain biking… he had me do a few things to prove it wasn’t a bad injury, gave me some advice and went home. I’m real glad he came over because it reassured me that id be better quickly. I think ill have to go fix his computers or something else nice as thanks for coming over. That night I couldn’t really walk on my left leg at all… I badly bruised the muscle that is in the upper inside corner of my kneecap. I could move my leg, and my feet, but it hurt to use muscles to do so. I went to bed with pillows under my knee to raise it up. I didn’t remember waking up during the night, and I slept a good 12 hours straight. I woke up to a phone call from Jim at work. Told him I was unavailable until Tuesday due to my injury.
Monday has begun and I’m now writing this blog entry… I’m able to walk today but I have a slight limp. I’m hoping ill be back on my bike by Wednesday and ill take a picture of the place I fell. In about an hour and a half I’ve got another phone interview with Google and another one tomorrow too. I think my accident would have been a little different if I had petal clips… I think it’s about time for me to get some, so I can work out some new muscles on my bike rides. I also need to get handlebar extenders for coming down hill. Anyways that’s all for now, ill link a picture to my knee when I get it online, as well as a picture of the place I fell.
